After more than a year, a review has been completed on the questionable analysis of thousands of CT scans in the Cypress Health Region

More than a year after concerns were raised regarding the quality of analysis of a number of CT scans, the Cypress Health Region has completed a comprehensive review of an additional 3,766 scans done by a radiologist between 2004 and 2007.

Health Region CEO Beth Vachon says they have now identified a number of individuals that may have been affected by the review and have either been in contact or continue to try and reach them.

Of the scans that were re-examined,  578 or 15% were found to be significantly different in interpretation meaning they had the potential to affect the patient's care.

As for where they go from here, Vachon says a second local radiologist has been recruited and new measures are being put in place to monitor the workloads of medical imaging and radiologist team members. They will also work on a relationship with a provincial group that will help provide support.

Patients who have concerns or questions about their CT scan experience during the timelines of October 1, 2004 and December 31, 2007 can call 778-5115 or speak with their family doctor.
