The Cypress Health Region has released a Health Status Report that details the unique challenges in our region.

The report shows the general trends in health through the region with stats from 2005 through 2011.

Consulting Medical Health Officer Dr. David Torr said the results of the report could influence what actions they take.

“It involves looking at the programing as we do it now and how we work with such programs and the initiatives we do take and what we need to add to the current programing.”

There are ways in which we are unique.

“(In Canada) the biggest cause of death is circulatory disease," Dr. Torr said. "That used to be the case for our region (but) that has changed in more recent years where by cancer is now causing more death than circulatory disease within the Cypress Health Region.”

Another difference is that our region had more admissions from motor vehicle accidents than the rest of the province.
