Cypress Health Region 2

The Cypress Heatlh Region continues held a workshop in Maple Creek last week to focus on simplifying processes that can sometimes be over-complicated.

"When we simplify some of our complicated processes, it increases patient-staff safety, and it really starts to have our staff spending the time that adds the most value to the people that they work with," said Health Region CEO Beth Vachon.

The workshop involved testing a new medication delivery system for nursing staff at Cypress Lodge, with Vachon saying it will allow nurses more time to spend with their residents.

"We've been looking at systems where a person's morning pills are all in one package, so it really does start to save time for our nurses to be able to reduce the amount of setup time they need to get the medications ready, which then allows them to spend more time with the residents," Vachon said. "We're really pleased that we were able to test and try some different things, and we will be implementing a new system probably about the middle of May out there."

Vachon says that they will be looking for opportunities to replicate the new process in other centres and should save nurses 50 minutes a day.

Other highlights from the week include cleaning up areas by removing unnecessary processes and things that weren't being used. Kitchenettes were also looked at and given easier access.
