It was a homecoming show on Thursday night for Eliza Doyle and the Dead South at the Long Day's Night Music Festival in Swift Current.

They were the only band to take to the stage on the opening night of the four-day event.

Doyle, one of the five band members from the Dead South, said it was great to play in front of her hometown crowd.

"The show was absolutely a fantastic success I believe," she said. "It was totally sold out and there was lots of really happy people there."

She joined the Dead South in 2016 after forging her solo career and hasn't played in Swift Current since.

"I'm really glad we were able to be part of it [the Long Day's Night Music Festival]," Doyle said. "I've been wanting to play in Swift Current since joining the band, but we are always on the road or on different tours and it doesn't really allow us to come to this area. I was really excited that we got asked to play and we were free."

Next up for the Juno-award winning band is a trip to the nation's capital to play a three-song set on live TV on Canada Day.
