Moose have been spotted around southwest Saskatchewan, and the Ministry of Environment has issued some advice regarding the matter.

While it can be tempting to try and get close to the animals for a photo, Rich Hildebrand, with the Ministry of Environment, advises against it. He says to keep a good distance between you and the animal, "Keep a good distance away, they are wild animals and are unpredictable. It wouldn't take them very long to get to you if they were looking to be aggressive."

If you are looking to get an up close look at the animals, Hildebrand recommends binoculars. "They can be quite aggressive during the mating season. If they have calves and feel they are being cornered, the mother will defend her calves. It's always, with any wild animal, to treat them with respect and don't get too close."

Moose, deer, and other wild animals often move around looking for suitable habitats and food. In doing so, they cross roads, highways and can even move through towns.

Drivers should also be cautious of animals on the highway as well. "Slow down, watch for wildlife as you're driving down the highway especially during dusk, early morning, and night."

If a wild animal is spotted within town limits, you can call the turn in poacher line to report it.
