The 42nd edition of Saskatchewan’s charity is one that found its way into the history books.

Telemiracle 42 wrapped up over the weekend and raised a record $7,151,256 million.

Susan Colbow, the committee chair for Telemiracle 42, said that they were able to reach the record total thanks to donations from people in other provinces.

"It was phenomenal," she said. "People that used to live in Saskatchewan still think of Saskatchewan as home and want to leave that money to help the people of Saskatchewan and Telemiracle. That's just amazing, and we are going to be forever grateful for that."

She said that it was terrific to hear that throughout the day, the phones never stopped ringing.

"They never stopped ringing, like even after the bequest and the big dollars it was like 'Hey how much higher can we go,'" she said. "They just kept on going higher and higher."

Colbow said that though it doesn't matter how much they raise, it was nice to set a new record.

"Even the years that we raised four or five million dollars, it's an amazing year," she said. "It doesn't matter how much Telemiracle raises - there are people in Saskatchewan who are going to benefit from the money. There are a lot of people out there that are going to benefit from this weekend."

Colbow added that when she learned they had raised over $7 million she was speechless.

The record was broken also thanks in part to a $1.5-million cheque from Dr. Phil Thacker, the largest donation the group has ever received.
