construction slow

As we head toward the long weekend, drivers are being reminded to stay safe, especially in construction areas.

Steve Shaheen with the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure says crews will be working on a number of different projects through the weekend, and drivers should take some extra time getting to their destinations.

"I expect some delays during the construction season," says Shaheen. "Short-term inconvenience will certainly lead to improvement. Motorists are reminded that they can get additional travel information from the Highway Hotline, including short-term maintenance activities and highway closures. As well, drivers should remember to plan ahead, have patience and arrive safely.

One major project of note for this weekend is the construction of a truck climbing lane along Highway 4 south of Saskatchewan Landing.

Shaheen says crews are continuing surfacing work and are targeting completion for next month.

Shaheen adds there will also be surfacing work along the Trans-Canada near Belle Plaine as well as just west of Regina.

He reminds drivers to take their time on the roads, and slow down to 60 kilometres per hour in construction areas.
