The candidates in Swift Current: Brad Wall, Aaron Ens and Amanda Huxted

It's election day in Saskatchewan and the three candidates in Swift Current want to make sure you cast your ballot.

"In a little while we will all mark Remembrance Day," said Premier Brad Wall. "We will honour those who gave all so that we could be free, so that we could vote in an election. We should take that seriously all of us, we should get out and vote."

NDP candidate Aaron Ens has a similar message.

"It's really important that everyone comes out to vote in this election," Ens said. "It's a very important election for the future of this province."

Green Party Candidate Amanda Huxted is counting on attracting some new voters.

"We gotta get to people who don't vote" Huxted said."People that don't pay attention to politics. We don't need big huge signs and cars with people's names printed on it. We need our mouths and we need to voice and be heard."

Both the Green and NDP candidates recognize they face a tall task in challenging Premier Wall in his home riding.

"I'm very confident we are going to have a good showing," Ends said. "I know it's a tough constituency but I think we are going to do fairly well. I'd like to see that (NDP) plan put in action so we can all benefit from this economic prosperity we are currently seeing."

Wall was impressed by what he saw of Ens.

"I think they've done a good job of getting it out there," Wall said. "Good for him that he is working so hard to be a part of this democratic process."

He is confident in getting Swift Current's support again.

"You know we take nothing for granted," Wall said. "We made some important investments in the community over the last four years in infrastructure and education... but we know there is work to be done in long-term care."

Wall has been the MLA in Swift Current since 1999 and leader of the Saskatchewan Party since 2005. His party won a majority mandate in 2007 and are hoping for a repeat against new leader Dwain Lingenfelter and the NDP. Lingenfelter is running in Regina but is originally from Shaunavon.

The advance polls for the election proved to be very popular, with a record 66,602 people voting across the province over the past week.

Today the polls are open from 9:00am to 8:00pm. Click here for a list of polling locations in the Swift Current constituancy.

We will have a live election special tonight on Country Music Radio from 8 to 10pm. Watch Swift Current Online for live updates as the results come in.
