Work will soon get underway on the City of Swift Current's ongoing upgrades to its electrical system. City Light and Power Director Mitch Minken said, “Each year we undertake upgrading a portion of the overhead power line system to bring it up to new standards for safety and reliability purposes. Try to keep our system operating at an optimum level.”

Minken adds that customers should expect a few short outages while the work is underway, “It'll be localized stuff, typically just a home or two at at time as the guys go through changing poles and wire.”

The areas affected are between 2nd and 3rd Avenue Northwest from Herbert to North Railway, 4th and 5th Avenue Southeast from McIntosh to Aberdeen, 5th and 6th Avenue Southeast between Friesen and Aberdeen, and 2nd Avenue Southeast from the east side of Gladstone Street East to Aspen Drive.

Minken adds work will start around the beginning of April, and residents in those areas should expect localized outages for the next month or so.
