A staple of the Swift Current automotive community for nearly 40 years, the Riverside Fun Run, was up and running again yesterday.

The Eliminators Car Club hosted the event for the 38th time since its first outing in 1970.

Members of the club showcased classic and collector cars numbering up to 140, according to President of the Eliminators Car Club Dustin Vipond. A small-block Chevrolet motor was also raffled off.

Vipond said that proceeds were going to be divided up and would be used in multiple ways.

"We kind of split it up, we do a highschool bursary, we do the Salvation Army, there's just a pile of charities that we kind of divvy up to throughout the year, and then some of it covers the cost of the weekend as well, it really does go all over the place."

The bursary is for graduating high school students interested in the automotive industry, like this year's recipient, Mason Mareschal, a graduate of the Swift Current Comprehensive High School.

Admission to the event was free, but attendees were asked to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Salvation Army.

Vipond also said that the event has been kept in commission by members of the Eliminators Car Club due to their enthusiasm for cars.

"It's certainly not a money maker for us, but it's great for the community, it's great for all the car guys around town, and we make a little bit of a fundraiser with the engine raffle for charities around town, so it works out well."
