After a fashion show benefiting two different causes came to a close, the totals have been tabulated and donated.

A fashion show hosted at Urban Roots Hair Studio last weekend garnered a full house, generating funds for multiple donations through the price of admission and an auction.

The money was donated to Southwest Crisis Services, as well as a fund to send a Swift Current resident to Africa to volunteer.

Leann Martens, is the woman who would be travelling to Lusaka, Zambia helped create the show, and recently made the donation of $737.50 to Southwest Crisis Services, half of the $1,475 raised at the show.

The other half goes to Martens to finance her trip to Africa to volunteer with an organization to help take care of orphans, one aspect of which is taking them to camp.

Martens spoke about where the money puts her in terms of being able to afford to go to Zambia.

"I'm just short the exchange, It's $5,000 U.S. dollars to go, that is including all of the flights and accommodations and food and everything, and then that also brings 10 of my girls to camp, so that sort of covers the cost of all of that."

She said that time is winding down for her to raise the remaining money to cover the exchange rate.

"Probably about another $1,600 I guess. I have a two-week extension, so I have less than two weeks to try and kind of get all that together to go."

If she does not raise the amount of money in that time period, the money that she has contributed to the program will go to benefit the volunteer organization after a one-year holding program, and Martens would just be left behind.

She said that she plans on doing a telecall to earn some funds to the program, and said that someone she volunteered within Africa on separate occasions offered to donate.

Martens said that a second show next years is a possibility.
