On a journey thousands of kilometres long, one traveller recently passed by the southwest Saskatchewan area fulfilling her goal of gargantuan proportions.

Cecile Hryhorczuk decided to bike across Canada after receiving treatment for ovarian cancer. Her goal is the spread awareness for the disease, and raise money to fight it.

Diagnosed at the end of 2015, Hryhorczuk thought of the idea to keep herself motivated and back in shape while going through surgery and chemotherapy.

Beginning in Vancouver, she said that she and her travelling partner have been stopping along their trip to meet with women affected by ovarian cancer, and members of Ovarian Cancer Canada.

"My hope is to inspire women to keep moving, keep taking care of themselves.

"I know it's not for all women and I'm lucky to be able to do this trip."

She said that exercise is a great coping mechanism for herself while dealing with the realities that ovarian cancer presents her.

Hryhorczuk said that compared to undergoing chemotherapy, the journey was quite easy.

"You can not do anything for yourself [in chemotherapy,] you can not move, you can not eat, and at least with this trip I choose to be biking, and to be doing what I want."

Only 16 months ago, after surgery she said that she couldn't even walk, so she said that being able to carry out the adventure felt that much more rewarding for her following that experience.

"It feels awesome, just a great way to spend the summer."

Two months after her initial surgery, she did a five-kilometre walk, but again lost her strength following a round of chemotherapy after that, and soon after decided to make the cross Canada trek.

Hryhorczuk is continuing treatment for her cancer, although not through chemotherapy, instead opting for hormonal therapy treatment.

She said that they hope to finish their journey in Montreal, where she lives, by August 17.
