fire hall and trucks - 12

If you get a visit from the Fire Department wanting to look at your smoke detector, you can be assured that it is a legitimate program.

The Swift Current Fire Department has been met with some skeptical people.

"Response is really positive," said Deputy Chief Pete L'Heureux. "But we do get a lot of questions as to why we're there and if they have to participate in the program. Some people are even curious as to if we're there on official business or if someone is trying to pull something over on them and get into their house.

L'Heureux wants to assure residents they are just going door to door, offering to check smoke detector and even change batteries.

He adds it's not mandatory, but an attempt to raise awareness.

They will generally come by between the hours of 6pm and 8pm. The program starts on the south side of the city.
