A man accused of flying and crashing a plane while impaired had the first day of his trial in Swift Current Provincial Court's Court of Queen's bench yesterday.

Calvin Pahl is alleged to have crashed a plane just west of Swift Current on May 22, 2018.

Police say that the man took off in his plane from a grid road before hitting some trees, and crashing just four kilometres west of the city.

Upon crashing, he and a passenger suffered minor injuries.

The crash also resulted in a leak from the plane which had to be plugged by firefighters.

He faces charges of operating an aircraft while impaired and causing bodily harm.

The trial continues today at 10:00 a.m. from the Court of Queen's Bench, and is scheduled to continue until Friday.
