It's been a quiet winter flu season in the Cypress Health Region, but it doesn't mean that we're out of the woods.

"It's been a very quiet winter so far, but now, we are actually starting to see and get reports of cases of influenza in our communities and increasing absenteeism in our communities," said Dr. David Torr, the Health Region's Consulting Medical Health Officer. "It's just a reminder to the public that it's not the end of the influenza season, if anything, influenza is now starting to show itself and possibly the mild winter has been a contributing factor to that.

Dr. Torr says anyone who hasn't had their flu vaccine should think about getting it. Otherwise he's advising us to take the normal precautions like washing our hands and sneezing or coughing into our sleeves.
