The former Saskatchewan Wheat Pool president is pleased after the federal government went back to the drawing board with their proposed tax changes.

As more changes continue to be unveiled by the Liberal government, Marvin Wiens said he's relieved by their decision to not heavily tax the transfer of a business to the next generation.

"That was probably one of the biggest issues that concerned a lot of us," he said. "We're trying to keep the family farm, it's difficult at the best of times. If tax policies would have changed that made it more difficult, it would have been totally unacceptable."

Wiens, a Liberal candidate in the 2015 federal election for the Cypress Hills-Grasslands riding, also believes the changes will alleviate the pressure within the Liberal party.

"Yes I think it should help," he added. "There was no doubt that many of the backbenchers were very unhappy... and I think the feedback they got did help the government change their position on this."

The federal government is expected to continue to unravel its changes.
