Whether you are a seasoned veteran, trying it out for the first time, teaching the kids, or just fishing for a hobby, you will be able to do it for free next weekend.

Saskatchewan's annual free fishing weekend is July 13-14, and invites residents and visitors to the province to fish in any of Saskatchewan’s public waters open to sport fishing, without purchasing a fishing licence.

Anyone planning to take part in the free fishing weekend should note that all other fishing regulations, including possession limits, gear restrictions and size limits on some lakes and rivers, will remain in effect.

The free fishing weekend does not apply in national parks, and anyone planning on taking fish out of the province must purchase a license.

Annually, approximately 250,000 people fish in Saskatchewan, including more than 50,000 out-of-province anglers.

The first free fishing weekend in Saskatchewan was held in the summer of 1989 to encourage participation in sport fishing, and increase public awareness about the value and diversity of angling opportunities in the province.
