Saskatchewan's annual summer Free Fishing Weekend is here.

Today and tomorrow residents and visitors to Saskatchewan are welcome to fish in any of the province's public waters open to sports fishing without purchasing a fishing license.

Murray Koob is a Sport Fishing Specialist for the Ministry of Environment. He says, "Free Fishing is part of a national initiative involving all the provinces in this country where free opportunities are made available throughout various times of the year to help promote the sport of fishing and help foster an appreciation for the outdoors."

All other fishing regulations, including possession limits, gear restrictions, and size limits on some lakes and rivers remain in effect.

Free Fishing Weekend does not apply in national parks and anyone planning to take fish out of the province must then purchase a license.
