Gerald Stanley has been declared innocent in the killing of Colton Boushie after 13 hours of deliberation by the jury.

Stanley, a 56-year-old farmer from the Biggar area, was charged with second-degree murder in the death of the 22-year-old who died on August 9th, 2016. If the jury did not find him guilty of the murder charge, they could have done so with a manslaughter charge.

Testimony through the two-week trial described how a grey SUV with a shredded front tire rolled into Stanley's farmyard that day. One person got out and checked a gold truck on the property, while the SUV moved to a nearby quad, which a man from the SUV attempted to start.

An altercation occurred between those who arrived in the SUV, Stanley, his son and his wife.

During the trial, Stanley testified that he had not meant to shoot anyone and said he had only grabbed his Tokarev pistol to make noise and scare the intruders away.

Jury selection for the trial took place on January 29th and was followed by several days of testimony from eyewitnesses, family members, experts and Gerald Stanley.
