The Government of Saskatchewan is investing nearly $8 million for facility and infrastructure improvements in southern provincial parks in 2020-21.

Byron Davis, Executive Director of Parks, Infrastructure and Capital Planning with Parks Culture and Sports details how the money will be used.

"Some of the notable projects recently opened was the Buffalo Pound park swimming pool which was well-received obviously. We've had things like campgrounds electrical improvements and water system improvements, a new service center at Sask Landing Provincial Park, and boat launch upgrades, and these types of things are happening."

A couple of years ago the swimming pool building located at Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park received an exterior upgrade and Davis details why they will now be renovating the interior of the building.

"Well that facility is approaching 30 years old, it's in need of some upgrades. The interior finishes and mechanical systems need refreshing. So just to keep everything up to the standard we are focusing on that project for this year."

The entire project will cost roughly $900,000 to complete all the interior and mechanical system upgrades.

The majority of the projects will be carried out after the current camp season is over and will be completed in time for next year's season.

Along with ongoing improvements to washrooms, docks, day-use facilities, and signage, upgrades scheduled for completion prior to the 2021 camping season in southern Saskatchewan provincial parks include:
