The Grand Opening of the Randy Surjik Memorial Amphitheater in Memorial Park in Shaunavon is happening this afternoon.

Renita Saunders from the Perk Up Our Parks Committee says it all starts around three o'clock this afternoon followed by a short ceremony.

"At 3:30 we are going to do welcomes and thanks yous to the sponsors and volunteers who helped build the Amphitheater. And then we are providing free cake to everybody who comes."

Saunders says the Grand Opening is in conjunction with the June Fest fundraiser being held that evening in the Park, which is raising funds for Shaunavon's new proposed Splash Park.

The Splash Park initiative has raised about $100,000 of the $350,000 it will take to complete it, and this evening's events will add more to that grand total.

They are hoping they'll be able to get all their funds in place for the Splash Park for their goal of construction to begin in the spring of 2019.
