Francophone communities in Saskatchewan, including severa in the southwest, have until late June to apply for the Francophone Community Infrastructure Fund.

Charles Henry Warren, Executive Director of the Francophone Affairs Branch of the provincial government, explains how the program got started.

“Three years ago the provincial government and federal government made contribution to the La Troupe du Jour which is a professional francophone theatre company in Saskatoon," Warren said. "I guess we saw the benefit for making some investments in the Francophone community in Saskatchewan”

The funding goes towards many different projects,

“The kind of projects this supports, like last year they tend to be renovations to community centre bringing it up to code," Warren said. "Or enable the space to do new things like new sound and light systems.”

FCIF provides $100,000 annually for capital projects that, enhance access to, and promote francophone culture and the French language; enhance the quality and use of francophone community facilities; and create greater opportunities to hold events that support cultural vitality.

Applicants must contribute at least one-third of all eligible costs.

Funding may be provided for up to two-thirds of the required funds to a maximum of $50,000.

The application deadline is June 22nd.
