The town of Gravelbourg played host to an act that will highlight the small unique community on national television.

The history-rich town saw actor and comedian Jonny Harris film an episode of his television show Still Standing with the town as the featured community of the episode.

Still Standing explores small communities across Canada, touring them before performing a free stand-up comedy routine focused on the community itself.

The Renaissance Gaiety Theatre in Gravelbourg played host to the comedy special, and Ian Nichol, chair of the theatre board of directors, said that the show would be giving both the theatre and the town national exposure.

"It takes it to a stage that we definitely have not been featured on before, we've had different bands and groups come through to play, but never been showcased quite nationwide, we've had provincial exposure on cable access, and we do theatre productions and whatnot, but this is definitely another level for us."

Speaking on the result of the spotlight being shone on them, Nichol said that he hoped it would encourage people to experience the unique community.

"I hope more people in the province are aware of the things we do, it showcases all of the activities we put on there (at the theatre), local talent, and everything about the town really, the town of Gravelbourg is kind of unique in southern Saskatchewan."

Nichol said that the show would be featuring the town’s diverse cultural backgrounds, something that he attributes to the historically Anglo-French community.

Historic, European-eske architecture would also be a talking point of the show according to Nichol.

Structures that Nichol said Harris would most likely be viewing on the show would be Our Lady of Assumption Co-Cathedral, the Gravelbourg Convent, as well as the theatre itself, which is a 75-year-old building.

Gravelbourg's episode will appear on Still Standing's fifth season which is slated to release next year.

Other Saskatchewan communities which have been featured in an episode of the show include Maple Creek, Radisson, and Willow Bunch.
