Twenty-nine babies and their parents take part in the Great Cloth Diaper Change at the Plaza Shopping Centre in Swift Current on Saturday.

Twenty-nine families were part of a world record in Swift Current Saturday while sharing the benefits of using cloth diapers.

They took part in the Great Cloth Diaper Change at the Plaza Shopping Centre, which helped break the record for the most cloth diapers changed simultaneously in different locations.

The event needed 25 people to qualify for the record attempt and had only 18 registered a day earlier, and organizer Cindy Schultz was thrilled with the response from local families.

"A lot of people said they were bringing additional people with them, so a lot of them are trying to convince their friends to switch to cloth," Schultz said. "This was a great event to help them really see how easy cloth can be."

Schultz adds this event has also helped keep 29 disposable diapers from going into the garbage, adding they are the third-largest consumer products in landfills: "The cost-savings alone are a huge advantage to cloth," Schultz added, "and the lack of chemicals on our babies' bottoms... you don't even want to know."

Swift Current was one of 308 locations around the world taking part in the Great Cloth Diaper Change.
