It was the end of an era for Great West Auto Electric on Monday.

On Monday morning, the building which has been home to the company for over 50 years was torn down.

Leanne Tuntland-Wiebe is the office manager for Great West Auto Electric and said that seeing the building torn down brought about some emotions.

"There are mixed feelings today," she said. "The building has been there for a long time. There are a lot of memories there, and the biggest one for the kids was it was like saying goodbye to their dad all over again."

Tuntland-Wiebe said that with the building being torn down they are also excited for what the future holds.

"It's kind of exciting," she said, "It's a happy-sad day. It's exciting because it's going into the new building. It's the next part of the younger generation moving on."

It wasn't just the staff that had mixed emotions as many former staff members and customers stopped by to say goodbye to the building.

"It's kind of heartwarming to see," she said. "A lot of customers and friends say that the place wasn't the same without him (George Wiebe). They were used to walking in those doors and seeing him. It did not feel like the same building anymore. The new generation carries on but people aren't missing seeing George standing at the counter because we are in a different location."

The business moved locations for more space and because the building was falling apart.

"For the community building we changed the landscape in downtown Swift Current changing the corner that the Bumper to Bumper building is on," she said. "We are now changing the corner of Chaplin and 2nd by tearing down a building that's been here for probably a been 80 to 85 years."

Once the clean-up is complete the empty lot will be turned into a parking lot for the staff and customers.
