A 22-unit housing complex is currently under construction in Swift Current

Twenty-two families in Swift Current will soon have an affordable place to call home, as construction on a major housing project continues.

In a ceremony on Monday, dignitaries from the City and Province officially broke ground on the 22-unit complex located on the 700-block of 1st Ave NW.

The project is being undertaken by Silver Sage Holdings, who is committed to providing well-maintained, affordable housing to First Nations families in Saskatchewan.

City Business Development Director Marty Salberg says they've been working with Silver Sage for a number of years and is happy to see the project underway.

The province is providing $2.4 million for the $4.6-million project, and Government Services Minister Laura Ross says it is part of their larger strategy to help address a growing need for affordable housing in Saskatchewan.

Ross adds this is an exciting project that will provide safe, affordable housing, and it is in an excellent location as well, just across the street from Central School.
