beardathon

It can be itchy, patchy, and after the first week you might be tempted to shave it off, but once again this spring that hockey playoff beard can help save a life.

The NHL Players Association and the Heart and Stroke Foundation are teaming up for their 2nd annual Beard-A-Thon, with this year's event officially kicking off last week.

"There are so many Canadians that have been affected by heart disease and stroke, and as Canadians, we are hockey people, it's in our blood. I think it's a great combination," said Spokesperson Gaylene Poulin. "NHLPA Alumni are challenging fans, players and anyone interested in growing out a playoff beard. The fun part about it is all proceeds go to the Heart and Stroke Foundation."

Golden West Radio's Shawn Mullin is taking part in the fundraiser, and you can support him, or sign up yourself at beardathon.ca.
