Yesterday the Saskatchewan Health Authority hosted a Community Health Fair showcasing all of the programs that they offer to help residents dealing with health issues.

The fair featured booths giving information about things like Autism support and public health inspection.

Sheri Hornung, a nurse practitioner in Cabri, said that some people might not know what is going on in the new health authority.

"Well, we just want to make people aware of what we're doing in the health region, in the new health authority, and the programs that we have available, and we want to promote our educators and NP's (nurse practitioners), and all the other individuals that are here today."

There was also a booth set up from the Newcomer Welcome Center, hoping to inform new members of the community about all the services now at their disposal.

Viju Vijayan, the settlement worker for employment and community engagement with the Newcomer Welcome Centre, said that events like these help to inform newcomers.

"There is a lot of information helping newcomers with their health and all of their immunizations, because a lot of developing countries, like I'm from India for example, in our place some vaccinations are only for six months, but in Canada, it's good for ten years."

Some services that were shown off at the fair were dietitians, a diabetic educator, and services for coping with chronic disease.

Signup sheets were provided for programs available at the event, and some who were previously unaware of the programs signed up.
