A meeting was held in Shaunavon this past Friday to address the closures of Emergency Services at the Shaunavon Hospital and Care and the doctor shortage situation.

Representatives from the Cypress Health Region, the municapal governments of Shaunavon, Eastend an Frontier, Doctors, and Ministry of Health officials met to explore a variety of options to maintain a reliable acute and emergency outpatient service in Shauanvon.

A physician from within the region has agreed to cover at the Hospital Tuesday and Thursday evenings and ever second weekend, however cannot begin until June.

Area residents are threrefore advised that there could be possible closures of the Hospital in May.

CEO of the Cypress Health Region, Beth Vachon said everyone is working hard to resolve the situation, “I think there's certainly a commintment and will from all the people invovled, the health region and community leaders to resolve this. We'll look at how we can continue to provide 24-hour emergency services in Shaunavon.”

Mayor Of Shaunavon Sharon Dickie said an agreement was reached and that the group will explore a variety of options to maintain a reliable acute and emergency outpatient service in Shaunavon, "They're working with us to get this resolved but it's not just about Shaunavon its the entire southwest. The sooner it has a resolution the better.”

The group will meet again on May 11th.
