The community of Shaunavon, and the entire southwest, is well known for helping out their friends and neighbors.

This past weekend in Shaunavon a Steak Supper Fundraiser was held to support Bruce Cairns, a past resident and volunteer of Shaunavon, who underwent heart transplant surgery in Edmonton on Christmas Day.

Karri Sachkowski is one of the organizers of the event. She says, "A friend of mine and I just kinda got together and were brainstorming ideas and we decided that, in conjunction with the Badger game that night, we would sell some tickets and hold a Steak Night. And the proceeds from that would go to Bruce."

The evening also included raffle items and a silent auction.

One hundred and twenty tickets were sold for the supper, with over $10,000 raised to help Bruce and his family with living and travel expenses while he recovers.

Bruce is currently still recovering in hospital, but once discharged, will be living in Edmonton for up to three months for rehabilitation.

Anyone who would still like to donate to Bruce and his family can contact Karri Sachkowski in Shaunavon at 294-7002.
