A section of Highway 4 stretching from the Swift Current Creek to the south boundary of the City could see a number of improvements on the way.

At last night's City Council meeting, a proposal to enter into agreement with consulting firm AECOM to complete a design was approved by council at a cost of $144,000. According to Director of Engineering, Mac Forster funding for the design will be covered by the Ministry of Highways.

"They had made provision to provide us with $152,000 to go toward our engineering design. Through our research though, we had found a lot of this work had already been done so we are just picking up that work and finishing it."

Among the improvements being discussed are resurfacing of the road, along with additional turning and passing lanes and the creation of a climbing lane on the hill just south of the city. Once the design process has been completed, Forster says the project will go to a tendering process where they expect more funding to be made through the Province in 2012.
