Some great weather lately has allowed Saskatchewan highway construction crews to stay on track with some major projects in the southwest.

One of those projects is the work to permanently repair part of Highway 1 west of Maple Creek, which was heavily damaged by flooding in June 2010.

Dan Palmer with the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure says they hope to have the highway back on four lanes before winter.

Another major project on Highway 1 is a bridge replacement near Rush Lake which started in August. Palmer says eastbound traffic is down to one lane in that area, and the work should continue until late-October.

Also, work on building a truck climbing lane on Highway 4 at Saskatchewan Landing is continuing. Palmer says they are targeting early-October for the completion of the grading portion, with surfacing to take place afterwards.

Palmer adds, as always, drivers are reminded to slow down and be safe around these and other construction areas.
