Staff at the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure's Highway Hotline will have more eyes on the road, thanks to a new pilot partnership with a major Saskatchewan trucking company.

Dan Palmer with the Ministry says truckers with Ridsdale Transport limited will help supplement the Highway Hotline road information service, by calling in conditions overnight.

"Basically on the text report, motorists overnight between 8:00 PM and 8:00 AM will see additional travel information on the text report on the specific routes that this trucking forum operates on."

The truckers report covers only a few routes, including Highway 1 from Swift Current to the Manitoba Boundary, but Palmer says they will see how well it works and if there is a possibility to expand.

The report can be seen on the Highway Hotline's website in the text report.
