The Government of Saskatchewan is expanding the Encouraging Community Housing Options, or ECHO, program.

The Saskatchewan Housing Corporation is making $400,000 available to eligible municipalities.

"This program is going to provide a cost match grant for municipalities. The first one will give up to $10,000 to implement strategies identified in their housing plan... the second one is up to $20,000 to complete a housing plan," says June Draude, Social Services Minister and the Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation.

According to Draude, funding is available on a first come first served basis. "They would apply to Sask Housing and they would have to say they are wanting to talk about housing plans in their own community or they can partner with municipalites and small towns around them to develop a regional housing plan", she adds.

To qualify a municipality must have a population over 2500 people and must match a minimum of 50 per-cent of the project cost.
