As kids are starting to get back to school, today has been proclaimed the first-ever Provincial Students Day in Saskatchewan.

Chinook School Divison Deputy Director of Education Kyle McIntyre is reminding parents and communities that they are all about improving learning for all students.

"We would like our students to be empowered to become knowledgeable and skilled responsible citizens who recognize the value of a democratic society," McIntyre said.

He believes the day is a good reminder that the success of children depends on parents, schools and communities working collaboratively.

"We are committed to ensuring the learning success of students, " MacInyre said. "Through the professional development of staff and continued monitoring of students' progress."

Classes resumed at Chinook and Holy Trinity Catholic Schools on August 29.
