A familiar face to city council has announced they will be running for a seat once again.

John Wall is back in the running and believes that it is time to focus on basics like affordability and tax issues for small businesses and residents.

In a press release sent to Swift Current Online Wall stated:

"Over the past decade, we have seen year after year tax increases, many in the double digits. Our small businesses whom we depend on for our local economy and our residents especially those on fixed incomes simply cannot afford this."

he added  that, If elected to council he would "press for a line by line comprehensive review of spending at City Hall."

Wall also pointed to the need for council to return to the basics in their budgeting priorities as Swift Current looks to recovery from the COVID pandemic shutdown.

In response to why he wants to return to politics, Wall stated "We are still in the middle of a pandemic when fiscally responsible and economy-focused decisions are crucial for our recovery. If I have these concerns about our city then, I should be willing to step up and that is why I am running."

If elected, Wall added that a specific area of focus would be the issue of affordable housing.

"I would like to offer my experience as director and vice-chair for Prairie Pioneer Independent Housing, and other local housing initiatives as well as focus on pursuing and coordinating provincial and federal housing funding. Affordable housing is a key issue for me."

Wall brings to his council bid his previous five terms of experience on council in addition to more than five decades of community service and leading various boards and committees.
