July 2008 was quite the busy month for storms around the province.

With severe thunderstorms and even tornado warnings at times, Environment Canada Meteorologist Bob Cormier says it all stemmed from an unstable, humid air mass that settled over the province.

He adds that the most significant storms occurred on July 9th and 10th, with a couple of large and long hail swaths in southwest Saskatchewan.  Throughout the Swift Current region, we saw 12 thunderstorms hit during the month; the average is 6.

Cormier says it has also been an active month as far as tornadoes are concerned, with 15 touching down this summer.  The annual average for tornadoes in the province is 12.

Cormier adds that the area of the province receiving the most storms this July was the southeast, with storms occurring almost every two or three days over that region.
