Swift Current is now in the record books. With July coming to a close, it meant that Swift Current had the least amount of precipitation from November of 2016 to July of 2017.

Warning Preparedness Meteorologist, John Paul Cragg talked about the record breaking weather Swift Current has received.

"The big record that Swift Current broke was for the November to July time period, the southwest from November to July had pretty much below average precipitation every month," he explained. "So from November to July, Swift Current saw around 105 mm, the old record from for the November to July period for the driest it's ever been is from 1936 to 1937 was 139.4 mm of precipitation. If you look at the November to July period this year it's the driest it's ever been in that time period by a lot, over all of the records we have for Swift Current, which are 130 years."

The month of July was fourth of the driest in on record for the City of Swift Current.

The city only received 7.4 mm of precipitation and Cragg noted that was due in large part to the city experiencing 14 days that were 30 degrees or warmer.

On average Swift Current has 5.4 days in the month of July in which the mercury reaches at least 30 degrees.

The previous record for lowest precipitation in the month of July was 4.5 mm set back in July of 2003.
