Five candidates are vying to replace the retiring Brad Wall in the upcoming Saskatchewan Party leadership race. Among them is Saskatoon Willowgrove MLA Ken Cheveldayoff.

Cheveldayoff said moving forward, he feels it's important to recognize the fact that we saw a lot of growth under Brad Wall's leadership, but also to recognize that there are some things we can do better.

"Recently we've had some challenges in the economy and the revenues that the government has received." Cheveldayoff said. "I think we have to take a step back and take a look at our last budget. We have to admit where some mistakes were made, admit where some things could have been done better, but most importantly, we have to plan for another 10 years of growth. I'm providing a vision to Saskatchewan people of what I want to do and how I see that growth taking place in the province."

While discussing the main points of his campaign, Cheveldayoff said he believes focusing on our strengths will be what takes Saskatchewan to the next level on the world stage.

"Agriculture and Agriculture value added, Agri-food and innovation, information technology, engineering, those are all strengths that we have in Saskatchewan and we have to use those to grow the province and to be ready when the economy does come back, so that people will invest in Saskatchewan and the jobs will be here."

Cheveldayoff said on his first day as Premier, he would bring back a commission to look at taxes and report back within 60 days, in regards to how improve rates and stay competitive with other provinces.

"PST on insurance for example, that's something we could have done better I believe. In meeting with the financial planners and life insurance people and the professional organization that represents them, they've shown me that we could have done that better. So I'm convinced of that, I think that we can certainly make sure that our taxes are competitive and that that gives that advantage to people as them employ more and as they grow."

Cheveldayoff said when it comes down to it, it's the members of the Saskatchewan Party that will decide the outcome of the race.
