Bill Boyd is on his way out earlier than planned as Kindersley's MLA.

The former Minister of Economy already announced plans to retire from politics, but today announced his immediate resignation.

The province's conflict of interest commissioner, Ron Barclay, released a report today saying the long-time Saskatchewan Party member's involvement with a Chinese irrigation business was, indeed, a conflict of interest.

Boyd, who was asked by Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall to resign, released the following statement earlier today.

"I spoke with the Conflict of Interest Commissioner this morning and thanked him for his report. I accept the Commissioner's report and take full responsibility for my actions. It never was my intention to be in a conflict in any way, however, I made an error in judgment and for that, I am truly sorry. I would like to apologize to Premier Wall, all MLA's and the Saskatchewan people. I have resigned from caucus effective immediately."

Regina Rosemont MLA Trent Wotherspoon is running for the leadership of the New Democratic Party of Saskatchewan, and tweeted this afternoon that Boyd "violated the conflict law & his GTH scandal is still under RCMP investigation. Yet he's still taking a 90K transition allowance?"

Barclay's report outlined that Boyd misrepresented his role in the government of Saskatchewan on the trip.

Boyd was seen on posters for the company - Modern Hi-Efficiency Agriculture Corporation - in China listed as the minister for economy in Saskatchewan, well after he'd stepped down from the post.

Boyd was one of the founders of the Saskatchewan Party.
