With the weather starting to show signs of summer many are thinking of seasonal activities including kites.

The Windscape Kite Festival will once again be colouring the skies near the city with displays from some of the world's best kite fliers.

This year's event set for June 23rd and 24th.

“For the kite festival we need about 300 volunteers" said Cultural festival Co-ordinator Shann Gowan. "There (are) jobs of all kinds, they can paint faces, make popcorn, be a field marshal, we have all sorts of jobs that we need people doing that whole two days.”

Gowan notes there will be some talented kite fliers.

“Every year we have kite fliers coming from Germany, all over the United States and all over Canada this year," Gowen said. "We're hoping to have fifty celebrity fliers."

The festival is also looking for artists to create sculptures that interact with the wind.

“They need to create a sculpture that interacts with the wind. So it can be a mobile or a chime or a banner or a windsock. Has to be really sturdy and has to be water and weather proof.”
