Local middle school students are learning about "The Hero Inside" today as part of the third annual middle years wellness forum put on by the Kiwanis Club of Swift Current.

"The purpose of our event is to draw awareness to healthy living, healthy decisions, healthy eating, healthy choices," said Kiwanis Youth Services Committee Co-Chair Travis Cuthbert. "We try to have ten to twelve activities, some that kids have never been involved in, and this might be an opportunity for them to have a look at that... wrestling to arts & crafts, teenage stuff, youth and the law, introduce them to new sports, new activities and things they will be faced with going forward in the community here."

The morning kicked off with a presentation by motivational speaker Ian Tyson.

"It's all about stepping up and doing what you believe is right," said Cuthbert. "Not following the crowd just because you're afraid of what is going to happen. At the end of the day if we can have 600 leaders walking around our school that is a wonderful thing."

Students then broke off into groups led by 24 local community leaders.

Next up for the Kiwanis Youth Services Committee is their K-Kids wind-up event at The Centre on May 3rd.
