Highway13

The August Long Weekend is coming up this weekend, which means lots of people from all over are getting ready to hit the road.

With the additional traffic taking to the highways and roadways, CAA is sending out a reminder for drivers to get to their destination safely.

Christine Niemczyk, Director of Corporate Communications and Public Relations for CAA, says it's especially important to closely inspect things like trailers and motorhomes, which may not get used regularly.

"Sometimes we may not be pulling out the motorhome or trailer unless it's the long weekend, so if those motorhomes and trailers have been sitting for a while, make sure you take them out because sometimes damage can occur for extending periods when they are not in use. So just take time to have a look and make sure everything is in good working condition." she said.

Niemczyk also reminds drivers to share the road."Typically this time of year we can expect that traffic to be everything from cars, vehicles, motorcycles, trailers, boats and motorhomes. It's just an important reminder to take your time, plan your route carefully and just remember we're not the only ones out there using the highways to get to our holiday destinations." she added.

Drivers are also reminded to slow down to 60 kilometers per hour, while passing construction zones, emergency vehicles, and tow truck operators assisting motorists.
