Trevor Koot

Trevor Koot is the new Chair of the Swift Current  and District Chamber of Commerce.

Koot is taking over for Robert Chapman who resigned after changes in his business life made holding the position difficult. Koot will serve out the remainder of Chapman's term until March and then start his scheduled yearlong term.

"Our role is to speak on behalf of the business community, " Koot said. "With the growth of this city we're seeing issues come up on an as needed basis."

Koot lists issues such as annexation of land from the RM, downtown infrastructure, and the multiplex facility as they want to make sure there are avenues in place for businesses that want to come to Swift Current, or for established businesses that want to grow.

Koot says the Chamber wants to make sure they are a voice for the business community and that voice doesn't have to stay local. The new Chair will be in Regina next week representing the local board during meetings with the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.
