Labour union SEIU-West, who has a regional office in Swift Current, is the latest organization to voice displeasure over the Sask Party's budget.

In a release posted after the budget unveiling, SEIU-West President Barbara Cape mentioned healthcare and education among the sectors she feels are unfairly targeted.

For healthcare specifically, Cape explains what SEIU-West is projecting for the healthcare workers in the southwest, as well as the rest of the province.

"It means there's going to be no change. It doesn't mean there's going to be significant improvement in our staffing levels. There was targeted funding towards addressing short-staffing or ER critical overload. But for long-term care facilities, there's really no recognition in this budget," she said. "This is an intensive human services sector, and we need to take care of senior citizens who require some pretty high levels of skilled care, but we're not going to have any more people to be able to do that. My question is 'who is going to do that?'".

Cape says she feels the budget doesn't address the issue whatsoever, and is extremely short-sighted in nature.

Frontline worker shortages have been reported as a consistent issue for the Cypress Health Region.
