There will be some landscaping done soon at the Cenotaph in Memorial Park in Shaunavon.

Brenda Waldron from The Shaunavon Legion explains the work that needs to be done.

"All the landscaping, like all the pavers, around the Cenotaph are old and uneven and we need to have proper drainage from the Cenotaph or  else it's gonna undermine all the hundreds of thousands of dollars there were put into it. It has to be graded and it has to be done professionally."

Waldron says Legion members will be removing all the old pavers and a contractor has been hired to replace the pavers, put a 20% grade in, and take the grass corners down to sidewalk level. Then, a concrete pad will be poured and planters will be added.

Total cost of the project is $20,000 with half of that already raised through donations and grants. The work is expected to complete by Boomtown Days in July.

The Legion will be selling the old pavers at a later time and are continuing to take donations. Donations can be made at The Shaunavon Town Office.

The Legion will also be donating the first 100 pavers to The Hillcrest Cemetery Committee and they will be used to protect the mulch around the new trees at the Cemetery.
