A water line break at the Leader and District Integrated Healthcare Facility yesterday resulted in its closure and patients being transported to Swift Current.

Dr. Kevin Wasko of the Saskatchewan Health Authority said the break resulted in power and heat being out for a period of time.

"A decision was made for the safety of the long-term residents in the care of that facility, they needed to be transferred elsewhere. some of them were able to go home temporarily with family members, and that meant preventing them from being transferred in the night. Some of them otherwise came here."

Wasko said some patients went home, while others went to either the Meadows or Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current.

Currently the extent of the damage and when the integrated healthcare facility will reopen are unknown.
