The Provincial Government recently announced $3.6 million of funding to help strengthen primary health care services in Saskatchewan, including designing and implementing innovative models of care at eight locations.

One of the innovation sites the province is investing in is located in Leader.

Beth Vachon, CEO of the Cypress Health Region, says those sites will test different kinds of models of primary health care.

"Leader in our region is one of our rural, remote communities and they will be looking to us to find learnings on how we can stabilize health services in a rural and remote community as part of our primary health care site," explains Vachon.

Vachon says they'll be looking at bringing other health care providers together with their current primary health care team in Leader.

"We have a variety of allied health care professionals who provide services to communities," explains Vachon. "But really the key here is going to be how we get our teams working in a collaborative fashion in a manor that sees them working together, co-locating and using technology to bring further services to community residents in that area."
