The Saskatchewan Party says they'll help seniors needing personal care homes if they're re-elected on November 7th.

Leader Brad Wall promised a new Seniors Personal Care Home Benefit that would subsidize the difference between a senior's monthly income and a threshold of $1800, with the cap increasing to $2000 by 2015. He also promised a 40% increase to the benefit paid out by the Seniors Income Plan over four years.

The party reported that the cost of the Personal Care Home Benefit would be $5.2 million in the first year, increasing to $6.9 million in year four, and the cost of the increase to the Senior's Income Plan would be $6 million in the first year, increasing to $9.8 million in year four.

The New Democrats renewed their call for rent controls on the campaign trail, with Leader Dwain Lingenfelter promising to bring them in if elected, along with help to build more affordable housing. Incentives would be offered to developers to build lower-priced homes, while first-time home buyers would get a $2000 grant to cover closing and related costs.

Lingenfelter says the total cost of the NDP's commitments would be just under $321 million over four years.
