Saskatchewan Party Leadership Candidate Scott Moe announced his first leadership campaign policy and it has a focus on increasing Saskatchewan's presence on the international trade market.

Moe would replace the Ministry of Economy with a Ministry of International Trade and Exports, according to a Wednesday-morning release.

"The new minister responsible for International Trade and Exports will be mandated with establishing Saskatchewan’s presence in the countries that account for the largest share of Saskatchewan exports, while maintaining Saskatchewan’s relationships with neighbouring jurisdictions in the United States," said Moe.

Moe would also create a Premier's Council on International Trade and Exports. It would be a group of external stakeholders said to represent the province's sectors that will advise the premier and minister of international trade and exports.

"Saskatchewan's exports feed and fuel countries around the world," Moe said. "Now is the time to invest in strategic efforts to grow and diversify export markets for Saskatchewan companies and producers."

The release said these changes would occur immediately after the leadership race, should Moe win.
